Mother-Child Devotionals
About These Devotionals
These devotionals are created for a mother and child to complete together—building emotional connection, stability, and healing through shared reflection. Each devotional includes Scripture, a short guided teaching for the mother, a child-friendly explanation, and an activity designed to help the child process emotions, understand truth, and bond safely with their mother while introducing Jesus.
This page houses all Haven Hearts devotions and will grow as new entries are added.
How to Use This Page
Begin with any devotional listed below. Each devotional contains four consistent parts:
Scripture
Mother’s Reflection
Child’s Moment
Activity or Practice
Mothers may choose to read aloud, read silently, then discuss, or complete the activities throughout the day depending on the child’s age, attention span, or emotional state.
These devotionals are intentionally brief so they can be done in five to ten minutes while still creating meaningful connection.
Why These Moments Matter
Healing a child begins with strengthening the mother-child bond in ways that feel safe, predictable, and emotionally steady. These devotionals help create regular moments of connection where children learn to trust again, mothers regain confidence, and both hearts grow toward healing in small, consistent steps. Whether your home feels peaceful or overwhelmed, these moments can anchor both of you.
Our Blessing for the Mother-Child Devotionals
May these shared moments become a sacred space where your child is gently introduced to Jesus through the faith they see lived out in you. May your words, your calm, your patience, and your courage form a steady model your child learns to mirror and trust. As you read, reflect, and practice truth together, may God strengthen the bond between you, heal the places that hurt, and build security where fear once lived. And may your own healing overflow so fully that your child learns what love, stability, and hope look like—not only through Scripture, but through your life. May every devotional draw both of you closer to God and closer to each other.

When God Whispers, “You’re Safe Now.” - Day 1
When God Whispers, “You’re Safe Now.”
When God Whispers, “You’re Safe Now.”
When God Whispers, “You’re Safe Now.”
“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge.”
— Psalm 91:4 (NIV)
Mom’s Reflection:
Sometimes safety doesn’t come all at once; it unfolds in little ways. Maybe it’s the quiet in the morning, or the way your child’s laugh fills the room again. God is whispering, “You’re safe now.” He’s building that safety in both of you, one heartbeat at a time.
Child’s Moment:
Ask your child: “Where do you feel safe?” Draw a picture together of God’s wings covering you.
Prayer / Heart Hug:
“Thank You, Jesus, for keeping us close under Your wings. We are safe with You.”
🌷 May God steady this mother’s heart and calm this child’s spirit. 🌷
May His presence be their shelter,
His love their comfort,
His grace their constant guide,
and may He bring healing to their hearts in His perfect way and time. Amen.
God Can Handle Our Tears - Day 2
God Can Handle Our Tears - Haven Hearts
God Can Handle Our Tears
God Can Handle Our Tears
“You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle.”
— Psalm 56:8 (NIV)
Mom’s Reflection:
Tears are holy language. We don’t need to hide them. Every tear you’ve cried and every one your child has shed has been seen and kept by God. Crying together is not weakness; it’s the beginning of healing.
Child’s Moment:
Tell your child: “God never gets tired of listening.” Together, share one thing that made you sad and then thank God for hearing you.
Prayer / Heart Hug:
“God, thank You for holding our tears and helping us heal inside.”
🌷 May God steady this mother’s heart and calm this child’s spirit. 🌷
May His presence be their shelter,
His love their comfort,
His grace their constant guide,
and may He bring healing to their hearts in His perfect way and time. Amen.

— Joshua 1:9 (NIV)
Brave Looks Different Now
Brave Looks Different Now
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
— Joshua 1:9 (NIV)
Mom’s Reflection:
Being brave doesn’t always mean smiling or pretending. It can mean getting out of bed when you want to stay hidden, or saying, “I need help.” God calls that kind of bravery beautiful.
Child’s Moment:
Ask: “When did you do something brave this week?” Celebrate it — no matter how small.
Prayer / Heart Hug:
“Lord, help us be brave even when we feel scared. Thank You for being with us everywhere we go.”
Love That Stays - Day 4
Love That Stays - Day 4
“Nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
— Romans 8:39 (NIV)
Love That Stays - Day 4
“Nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
— Romans 8:39 (NIV)
Mom’s Reflection:
Some people leave, and it hurts. But God’s love never walks away. His love stays in the room when everything else changes. Let your child see your faith that His love is enough for both of you.
Child’s Moment:
Hold hands and say together: “God’s love stays.” Then hug — long enough for both hearts to slow down.
Prayer / Heart Hug:
“Jesus, thank You that Your love never leaves. Help us feel it every day.”
🌷 May God steady this mother’s heart and calm this child’s spirit. 🌷
May His presence be their shelter,
His love their comfort,

Tiny Steps Count - Day 5
Day 5 – Tiny Steps Count
Scripture: “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” — Zechariah 4:10 (NIV)
Mom’s Reflection:
Healing isn’t fast, but God smiles over every small step — every deep breath, every laugh that returns, every moment you choose peace over fear. You’re both moving forward, even when it feels slow.
Child’s Moment:
Ask: “What tiny step did you take today?” Write it on a slip of paper and keep it in a jar of “God moments.”
Prayer / Heart Hug:
“Lord, thank You for celebrating our little steps. We’re walking with You.”

Peace in the Middle - Day 6
Day 6 – Peace in the Middle
Scripture: “He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.” — Mark 4:39 (NIV)
Mom’s Reflection:
Sometimes life feels like a storm that won’t end. The noise outside and inside can be so loud. But Jesus speaks the same words to our hearts that He spoke to the sea: “Peace, be still.” You don’t have to fix every wave; you just have to rest beside Him.
Child’s Moment:
Ask your child: “Where do you feel storms inside?” Take three slow breaths together and whisper, “Peace, be still.”
Prayer / Heart Hug:
“Jesus, quiet the storms in our hearts. Thank You for bringing peace even when things feel hard.”

Rest For Our Hearts - Day 7
Day 7 – Rest for Our Hearts
Scripture: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
Mom’s Reflection:
Some days, we carry invisible backpacks full of worry. God never asked us to drag them alone. When you and your child slow down together — even for a minute — that’s worship. That’s choosing rest.
Child’s Moment:
Invite your child to close their eyes and picture Jesus carrying their heavy backpack. Ask, “How does it feel to give it to Him?”
Prayer / Heart Hug:
“Lord, thank You for giving us rest when we’re tired. Teach us to breathe with You.”

God Listens When We Pray - Day 8
Day 8 – God Listens When We Pray
Scripture: “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” — 1 John 5:14 (NIV)
Mom’s Reflection:
God never puts us on hold. Whether it’s a whisper in the dark or a tear that says everything, He hears. Prayer is not about getting the words right; it’s about showing up.
Child’s Moment:
Say: “Let’s tell God one thing we’re thankful for and one thing we need help with.” Write them in a small notebook together.
Prayer / Heart Hug:
“Thank You, God, for always listening. We love talking with You.”

Telling the Truth Is Safe - Day 9
Day 9 – Telling the Truth Is Safe
Scripture: “Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place.” — Psalm 51:6 (NIV)
Mom’s Reflection:
Healing begins where honesty begins. Telling the truth about our feelings doesn’t break things; it begins to mend them. Show your child that truth and love can live in the same room.
Child’s Moment:
Ask: “What’s something you were scared to say before?” Listen without fixing. Let silence be safe.
Prayer / Heart Hug:
“Jesus, help us be honest and kind. Thank You for making truth a safe place.”

Day 10 – God Keeps His Promises
Scripture: “God is not human, that he should lie… Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” — Numbers 23:19 (NIV)
Mom’s Reflection:
People may forget their promises, but God keeps every one. His faithfulness is the steady floor under our feet. When your child sees you trust that, it plants hope in them.
Child’s Moment:
Say: “Let’s each remember one time God helped us.” Draw a rainbow to remind you of His promises.
Prayer / Heart Hug:
“Thank You, God, for always keeping Your word. Help us trust You with our tomorrows.”
