A Little Legislative Update, with Love, Sass & a Whole Lot of Purpose!

Hi Y’all! Let me tell you something! Writing new laws, advocating for meaningful change, and working to make our communities safer is no small undertaking. Behind every proposed bill, every legislative update, and every effort to change the law, there are real people, real families, and real lives hanging in the balance.

And YES, we are working on it!

As a Chaplain, I believe deeply that protecting people doesn’t stop at showing up when tragedy strikes. Sometimes, protecting people means doing the hard work before tragedy ever happens. It means looking at the laws we have, recognizing where change is needed, and having the courage to speak up for the people whose voices may not always be heard.

Because legislation, believe it or not, isn’t just paperwork. Done well, it can be prevention. It can be protection. It can be the difference that saves a life.

Now, let me be real with all y’all. Between writing, researching, following legislative developments, keeping up with emails, checking websites, tracking updates, and trying to make sure I haven’t missed something important, not to mention cancer-hacking surgeries, my inbox is starting to look like it needs its own legislative committee and a new wig!

There are links to click, updates to read, messages to answer, and approximately 47 tabs open in my brain at any given moment. And no, coffee hasn’t officially been recognized as a legislative aide… but I believe it deserves serious consideration! ☕🤣

Can’t forget how I’m with my new buddy, my skeleton named Frankie who was a gift! You will love her, I do! Every capitol appointment will be accompanied by Miss Frankie!

Grammy Tammy has turned into a little girl and is having a blast! 😂

Jokes aside, this work matters. I am writing! And when you care deeply about something, you want to give it your time, attention, and heart. I’m doing my best to keep up, stay informed, and move this work forward with purpose.

After all, legislation starts back up December 7th.

So if an update takes a little longer than expected, please know that the wheels are still turning! Sometimes meaningful change happens in meetings, sometimes in research, sometimes through difficult conversations, and sometimes behind a computer screen while you’re wondering which password you used for that one website.

My heart is in this work. My faith grounds me, my calling reminds me why it matters, and my commitment to safer communities keeps me moving forward, not to mention an amazing partner who knew what I needed, my Frankie!

We’re not just talking about changing laws here. We’re working toward changes that can protect the vulnerable, support those who serve, and save lives.

And we’re going to do it with compassion, determination, a little sass, and a whole lot of heart.

Because saving lives is serious business… but that doesn’t mean we can’t smile while we do it!
